Case Studies
Case Study 1.
A medium-sized engineering firm in Luton,
employing just over 50 staff, rented three
bottle-fed coolers, two for the factory
floor and one for the adjourning offices.
Whilst the monthly through-put on the
office-located machine was only four 18.9
litre bottles of water, the two
factory-located machines averaged fifty
bottles per month combined.
Although no rental charge was being made for
the machines, the company was paying £5.25
per bottle, plus a quarterly sanitisation
charge of £12.50 per machine. The total
annual cost for all three coolers was
consequently in excess of £3,500.
Conscious of the need to manage expenditure,
the company asked Aqua Filter to replace the
bottle-fed machines with mains-fed units.
Although two of the plumbed-in machines
supplied were more robust models designed to
handle the demands of the factory
environment (and were consequently more
expensive than standard units), Aqua Filter
provided the three units at a total annual
cost of just under £1,000, and this was
inclusive of filter changes and the
sanitisation service.
Total saving to the company was just over
£2,500 and because of the ‘flat fee’ nature
of mains-fed coolers, there were no seasonal
fluctuations in billing due to increased
water bottle demand, thus helping the
company’s cash-flow management.
Case Study 2.
A small recruitment company based in
central London employed 12 people and
occupied a ‘shop front’ and a small back
office. Space was very much at a premium,
but due to the amount of phone-work
involved, and the number of clients and
candidates visiting the offices, equally
important was the ability to provide
refreshment. A bottle-fed cooler was
therefore rented and the water through-put
averaged out at twelve 18.9 litre bottles
per month. These were delivered on a
fortnightly basis, meaning that at any one
time, there would be at least half-a-dozen
empty or full bottles on site at any given
time. Not only did this impose upon the
space available, it also presented a
potential Health & Safety hazard in such an
enclosed area.
To combat the space issue, the company opted
to go down the mains-fed route and
Aqua Filter provided them with a unit no
larger than the bottle-fed machine, but
obviously with no need to store any bottles.
Not only that, but the total annual savings
to have an unlimited amount of chilled &
filtered water exceeded £600.
Case Study 3.
A school in the East End of London was
committed to providing their pupils with a
continuous source of healthy refreshment and
therefore had installed four bottle-fed
watercoolers. Unfortunately, due to them
being located in a traffic-heavy area,
delivery of replacement bottles was often
delayed or on occasion, never arrived at
all. Attempts to contact their water
providers often met with recorded messages
and answerphones. This meant that during
periods of moderate to high demand, the
watercoolers would often stand empty.
Deeming this to be unacceptable, the school
contacted Aqua Filter, who installed two
coolers and two water fountains, providing a
constant flow of chilled & filtered water
that could cope with any levels of demand.
Additionally, the annual savings for the
school exceeded £2,000.
