Water Quality & Filtration
The single-most important component of any
mains-fed watercooler is the filter that is
employed. Even more vital is the quality of
that filter. Whilst all watercoolers chill
and dispense water, it is the filter that
determines its purity and taste.
All filters are micron-rated and this rating
should be clearly stated on the casing. The
rating relates to the size of the particles
the filter will remove from the water before
it’s dispensed. The lower the rating, the
finer it will filter the water, the more
impurities it will remove.
These ratings typically range from as high
as 20 micron to as fine as 0.5 micron.
Additionally, ratings are expressed in two
different classifications.
Nominal rating – Although the filter
has a micron rating, it is not guaranteed to
this level and may vary.
Absolute rating – This is a
guaranteed rating and will not vary.
These are the typical filters currently
available on the market.
In-Line Filters (Nominal Rating)
These are at the budget end of the filter
scale, normally with a 10-20 micron rating.
Typically a granular activated carbon
filter, they offer little protection against
bacteria and are really only designed to
remove taste and odour.
Carbon Block Filters (Nominal Rating)
Typically 5 micron, these filters push the
water through a carbon block to purify the
water. The filter area is therefore
relatively small and with above-average
useage, can sometimes become ineffective.
Pre-Coat Filters (Absolute Rating
Guaranteed)
A 0.5 micron-rated filter that will remove
99.9% of all water borne impurities. Using
an activated carbon membrane to filter the
water, they offer a large filtering surface
area 6 times the size of a carbon block
filter. A highly effective filter that will
also remove water borne bacteria such as
cryptosporidium.
At Aqua Filter, our decision to only use the
highest standard of pre-coat filters from
Everpure was easy. The Gold Standard of
filters, these 0.5 micron-rated filters are
fitted as standard across our whole range,
guaranteeing a quality and purity of
mains-fed water that is unrivalled in the
market.
